Tessa has just months to live. Fighting back against hospital visits, endless tests, drugs with excruciating side effects, Tessa compiles a list. It's her To Do Before I Die list. And number one is Sex. Released from the constraints of normal life, Tessa tastes new experiences to make her feel alive while her failing body struggles to keep up. Tessa's feelings, her relationships with her father and brother, her estranged mother, her best friend, and her new boyfriend, are all painfully crystallised in the precious weeks before Tessa's time finally runs out.
I nabbed this from the bargain bin at Border's many years ago, and it's been sitting on my shelf, lonely and unread, ever since. The reason I never picked it up is that I just could not handle reading a sad cancer book when so many people I care about in real life have been battling cancer and often dying from it.
I read the last quarter or so of Before I Die. Yeah, yeah, don't be lame and read the end . . . but sometimes it helps to figure out if you want to read the whole book! Anyway, the stupid book made me cry, so it's on its way out of the house.
Read this if Lurlene McDaniel is your homegirl and/or you loved The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.
