Marissa Meyer's Cinder is easily one of my most anticipated reads of 2012. Given that, I am sure that you can imagine my excitement when I discovered a link to this article in my inbox this morning! USA Today talks about the world of Cinder and the next books in The Lunar Chronicles (Scarlet, Cress, and Winter). At the end of the article is the best surprise ever: the entire first chapter of Cinder!
Have you read it yet? Are you as excited as I am?
I love this trend of fairytales being retold with paranormal, science fiction, and/or dystopian elements. Jackson Pearce is one of my favorites, with Sisters Red (Little Red Riding Hood), Sweetly (Hansel and Gretel), and the forthcoming Fathomless (The Little Mermaid). And though there are not any new elements added to the story, Heather Dixon's Entwined was a surprisingly enjoyable tale, considering I am not a huge straight fantasy fan. I can't wait to see who else besides Marissa Meyer publishes fairytale retellings soon!
Young adult science fiction is another love of mine. While you're waiting for Cinder (along with me, because I have not been able to get my mitts on an ARC!), check out these great YA SF reads: A Long, Long Sleep by Anna Sheehan, Across the Universe by Beth Revis, and Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan.
