About That Blog Silence . . .

Things have been a little quiet around here, and it's probably about time to explain why. On Friday, Boyfriend's 13-year-old cat, Gus, passed away. It was very unexpected, and neither of us handled it particularly well. As it turns out, our remaining pets really missed him too. Wednesday wouldn't leave the spot where we found Gus outside, and when we finally got her inside she just laid down by the sliding glass door and looked out the window. Even Gilbert, our only-cuddly-when-he-wants-to-be cat, has been down in the dumps. Gus was our little buddy, a real sweetheart, and he is in no way replaceable. However, we decided we could all use a new cuddly friend to fill the void.

We have spent the last few days scouring shelters for rescues with the right temperament, and we found two perfect animals: A cat named Molly and a dog named Riley. We have been preparing our home for inspection by the rescue league and just generally holding our breath in anticipation. We are still waiting on Riley - although our references let us know that they were contacted today, so hopefully we will hear soon - but we did get the call about Molly today! We just have to pass one last interview, and then Molly, who will probably be renamed Galaxy due to her coloring, will be ours.

I will post the "31 Days of Halloween" posts that I missed this week as soon as I get a chance. Things are just a little crazy right now, and we are still dealing with losing Gus on top of everything. Please bear with me, and hopefully the blog will return to normal in the near future.

  1. I'm sorry to hear about Gus. The first cat I lost as an adult was one of two. I got Buffy and Angel as kittens and they were brother and sister. It devastated us because he was the sweetest, most cuddly cat. A couple of days later, the freakiest thing happened. I went to hug my husband in the upstairs hallway and both of us turned to his office at the same time saying we'd just seen Angel walk in there- his favourite sleeping place.

I don't think Buffy ever got over him being gone because she died two months later with no rhyme or reason to it. They were both just 2 years old.

But there is nothing better to help you move on than taking in rescued animals. I have two rescued cats and two cats from kittens. So good luck with Molly/Galaxy and Riley. They won't replace Gus, but they'll definitely love you just as much, and then you'll always think of Gus with a smile instead of being sad about him being gone.

  2. I am so sorry for your loss, but I think it's wonderful that you're bringing two new animals home! Good luck to you, and can't wait to see pictures of Molly and Riley (one of our cats is named Riley too).
