My Week in Books (54)

Credit for IMM goes to The Story Siren

My first order of business this week is to direct you to this post from Thursday. I need your help picking out a book to read this week! (Maybe this could turn into a weekly thing?) Any comments would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Books received for review

I got the care package to end all care packages from my awesome bookish friend:
Fever by Lauren DeStefano, Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi, A Million Suns by Beth Revis, and Bloodrose by Andrea Cremer

I'm pretty sure I screamed like a cheerleader in a horror movie when I opened this package. Definitely scared the bejeesus out of my poor dog!

I'm in a reading slump... can you help me?

Hello, dear blog readers!

I have been in a reading slump lately. It's picked up a little in the last few days, but I still miss my reading buddy - our cat, Gus - who passed away earlier this month, and it's been tough without the little guy jumping into my lap whenever I sit down on the couch with a book.

So, to get my sorry butt back into reading gear, I am asking for your help! I have a few books on my shelves - some new, some old - that I should read but just haven't been in the mood to lately. Talk me into choosing one of these books, and I will read it during the week and blog about it on November 5th!

The choices are:
1. Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder
2. Shadow Hills by Anastasia Hopcus
3. Bad Taste in Boys by Carrie Harris
4. Graceling by Kristin Cashore
5. The Dark Divine by Bree Davis
6. Low Red Moon by Ivy Devlin

I can't wait to hear what you all say about these books!

About That Blog Silence . . .

Things have been a little quiet around here, and it's probably about time to explain why. On Friday, Boyfriend's 13-year-old cat, Gus, passed away. It was very unexpected, and neither of us handled it particularly well. As it turns out, our remaining pets really missed him too. Wednesday wouldn't leave the spot where we found Gus outside, and when we finally got her inside she just laid down by the sliding glass door and looked out the window. Even Gilbert, our only-cuddly-when-he-wants-to-be cat, has been down in the dumps. Gus was our little buddy, a real sweetheart, and he is in no way replaceable. However, we decided we could all use a new cuddly friend to fill the void.

We have spent the last few days scouring shelters for rescues with the right temperament, and we found two perfect animals: A cat named Molly and a dog named Riley. We have been preparing our home for inspection by the rescue league and just generally holding our breath in anticipation. We are still waiting on Riley - although our references let us know that they were contacted today, so hopefully we will hear soon - but we did get the call about Molly today! We just have to pass one last interview, and then Molly, who will probably be renamed Galaxy due to her coloring, will be ours.

I will post the "31 Days of Halloween" posts that I missed this week as soon as I get a chance. Things are just a little crazy right now, and we are still dealing with losing Gus on top of everything. Please bear with me, and hopefully the blog will return to normal in the near future.
