Awaken Me Darkly by Gena Showalter

AWAKEN ME DARKLY
(Alien Huntress #1)
by Gena Showalter

Ridding the world of evil. One alien at a time.

In a time and place not too far away, Mia Snow is an alien huntress for the New Chicago Police Department, and she's the perfect girl for the job. Tough and sexy, she's earned each of her scars battling the elusive enemy among us. Now, investigating a series of killings, she is shaken to the core when a burst of violence leaves her partner Dallas fighting for his life. A tall, erotic stranger holds the power to heal the injured agent - and to bind Mia in an electrifying and dangerous seduction. He is Kyrin en Arr, of the deadly Arcadian species - an alien, a murder suspect - who has Mia walking a knife's edge, risking her badge and even her life . . . and edging closer to a shocking revelation that will shatter everything she's ever believed.

My Review
I've been in a bit of a reading funk lately and haven't really enjoyed most of the books I've read. Fortunately, Awaken Me Darkly was just what I needed to break out of it. I loved it so much that I've already bought the next four books in the series! Mia Snow is a perfect strong heroine - smart, sexy, and tough, with a real reason behind her attitude instead of just barely-deserved cockiness. Kyrin, the male protagonist, is strong yet caring, making him very endearing. I also loved the concept of A.I.R., an organization of quasi-governmental alien hunters. After catching up on the Harmony series Jayne Castle (aka Jayne Ann Krentz) in January '10, I have been dying to find another futuristic/paranormal romance series with aliens, and this series perfectly fills that void.

If you enjoy futuristic paranormal romance with strong heroines, and especially you've read and enjoyed Gena Showalter's other series, I strongly suggest you give this first book in the Alien Huntress series a try!

Gena Showalter is also the author of the Lords of the Underworld, AtlantisTales of an Extraordinary Girl, and Intertwined series.
